$13, 4 stars, 89 points, australia, cabernet sauvignon, Naked Wines, shiraz, Victoria

Deep purple colored turning slightly bluer on the edges with slight staining and medium viscosity (14.3% ABV).  The nose has medium (+) intensity aromas of ripe plum, eucalyptus, vanilla, blackberry, brambleberry, baking spices, purple licorice, tomato leaf, green and black peppercorns, and acai berry.  It’s jam packed with dark fruit aromas.  The palate is dry with medium acidity, a medium (+) body, and medium tannins that are plush.  The ripe black fruit weaves through eucalyptus, vanilla and spice notes.  The green note I caught on the nose repeats on the mid palate with a touch of unripe stem coupled with some charred oak notes.  The finish is juicy and medium (-) in length.  I am enjoying the melange of flavors in this $13 bottle and think it will benefit from some short term cellaring.  I give it 89 points and 4 stars.  Salut….

Medium ruby colored with medium viscosity (14% ABV).  The nose has medium (+)  intensity aromas of mint, blackberry, black plum, eucalyptus, violets, graphite and espresso.  The palate is full bodied and dry with medium (+) acidity and medium (+) tannins that are fine grained.  The palate has ripe dark fruit, telltale mint and eucalyptus for this varietal and region plus oak nuance with the espresso.  The finish is tart from the acidity and refreshing.  It lasts for a decent length, inviting me back for another taste.  Lovely stuff that gets 91 points from me.  We are painting it with Pot Roast but a hearty steak will do the trick as would some lamb chops.  Drink this $18 offering till 2030.  5 stars.  Salut….

Medium to deep ruby colored with high viscosity (14.6% ABV).  The nose has medium intensity aromas of black raspberry, mint, eucalyptus, a hint of vanilla, red plum, blackcurrants and baking spice. The palate is dry with medium acidity and medium (+) tannins. Confirming dark red fruits with definite oak influence plus the eucalyptus and mint notes. The wine is full bodied with very caressing tannins towards the mid palate. Finishing medium in length with a touch of red fruit-driven tartness. 90 points and for $13- 5 stars.  I am pairing this smooth Aussie Shiraz with grilled Strip steak. This one will cellar till 2028.  Salut….

$35, 5 stars, 92 points, australia, shiraz, Victoria

I have had a few of the Two Hands wines and enjoyed them so when I came across this slightly aged bottle I had to try.  It’s Lamb Chops tonight so an Aussie Shiraz is appropriate.  This one is deep ruby, ie nearly fully opaque.  The nose is of medium intensity and has aromas of plums, blackberry, rich baking spice, cedar and eucalyptus but no telltale pepper note.  The palate is dry with really juicy acidity, medium (+) tannins and medium (+) body.  There is some heat from the high alcohol that caught me off-guard.  The flavors are medium (+) intense and consist of black plums, blackberry, cedar, eucalyptus and a jammy component.  The finish is quite long, the wine is nicely balanced and complex.  It has good mouthfeel even though there is a slight, lingering burn on the back end.  I like it and think it will drink well for some time- till 2029.  Pairing it with meat is obvious.  92 points from me and for $35 it’s a steal worthy of 5 stars.  Salut….
